MARITA HUURINAINEN - ANKARA SHIRT DRESS (ROWAN BERRIES BLUE)
The patterns tell the story of an artistic process.Powerful color combinations, brush strokes and color drops are all handmade. The materials are natural and breathable: cotton, linen, viscose and silk. The printed fabrics have been dyed in collaboration with African artisans using their traditional techniques. Each area and author has its own way.We use e.g.traditional batik dyeing with candle wax, knot dyeing, and coloring with a brush.
Pattern as a means of expression
Traditionally, patterns express the wearer’s feelings or important events.Further, at important events in life: weddings or funerals, all participants dress in the same patterns, and thus tell that they share the same experience.
We work with local artisans while working to support these women entrepreneurs in developing their own businesses. When you choose 100% art products, you are involved in empowering them and their village communities.
Due to the way it is done, almost every product is an individual. The coloring result is never exactly the same, but each piece is unique .... like us :)
