Morocco has a long history of weaving some of the most beautiful rugs in the world. The ancient weaving started before the 7th Century with the Berber tribe, people of North Africa who settled in Morocco during this period.

Moroccan Zemmour rugs are flat woven by the Berber women leaving near Khemisset, Zaiane and Azrou. This flat weaves, Kilim rugs are often used a wall covering or blankets but also as floor covering, they are light and finely woven from organic cotton and wool. The traditional designs feature deep cherry reds, olive green, black and white stripes and diamond rows. This rugs were hand-woven by the Berber women of Zemmour for their own used and you can see that they are finely woven. For centuries the tribal people of Morocco's Atlas Mountains have passed down the delicate art of rug-weaving. In Northern Africa rugs are not only a practical asset to the home, they are an integral part of the culture. Hand-knotted rugs are the preferred gift of people of high social rank, and are also a traditional wedding gift.
