Shopping: Portland Trading Co.

https://therovinghome.wordpress.com/2013/03/07/shopping-portland-trading-co/ We stopped in Portland, Maine for a few days and I wandered into a relatively new shop, Portland Trading Co. Kazeem, the proprietor, is stylish in all the right ways. Which is to say he is totally current without being a snob. He was so engaging I could have talked at him for a long while, but fortunately for him some regular customers came in and rescued him from my enthusiasm. The aspect of the Portland Trading Co. that intrigued me the most, beyond the well-edited selection, is that Kazeem buys across several categories — the place is like a general store for the modern man — and yet it all hangs together in an entirely cohesive way, from...

A CAREFULLY SELECTED COLLECTION OF HOME WARES, CLOTHING, SNACKS AND ACCESSORIES IN THE OTHER PORTLAND.

http://www.kinfolk.com/city_guide/portland-maine-portland-trading-co/ Just like Kinfolk, Portland Trading Co. has an appreciation for classic pieces, vintage relics and modern silhouettes. Opened by Nigerian-born Kazeem Lawal and his girlfriend, Jessica Kissell, in May 2012, the shop has a cozy, comfortable vibe (he was playing Dave Brubeck on the turntable when we visited). Along with a sweet collection of antique typewriters and accessories, Portland Trading Co. carries everything from Swedish Hasbeens, Balsam Fir incense, clothing for the modern-day ship captain and small-batch, high-quality home wares to well-designed clothing and shoes, food and beauty products and just bubbles over with personality. Kazeem’s goal is to offer a carefully selected collection of goods for house and closet, which includes magazines (yes, Kinfolk! along with Darling, Smith Journal and other of-the-moment titles), comfortable, durable...

Nestled among seafood joints and eclectic coffee shops, this Portland, Maine retail destination mixes New England charm with the best in new indie menswear.

http://nothingmajor.com/features/39-portland-trading-co/ ARTICLE By Laura Feinstein, May 1, 2013 Portland Trading Co storeowner Kazeem Lawal is a hard person to miss. In a town known more for its lobster rolls and L.L. Bean workboots than for cutting edge fashion, the bow tie and bowler hat-sporting six-foot Nigerian-born Lawal, is often (and accurately) referred to as “the most fashionable guy in town.” Whether he’s sporting a dapper suit and freshly shined shoes during a walk through the city, or wearing some of the shop’s gear as he plays host to an in-store oyster tasting, Kazeem always cuts an impressively stylish figure. Originally traveling to the U.S. from Lagos to work in telecommunications (Lawal holds a BS degree in electrical engineering), the entrepreneurship bug hit him...
